This song is written by John Gleadall our bandmate, originally for a modern adaptation of A Christmas Carol that he'd composed for a theatre group. John Chris and I sang the song together at Christmas and I just loved it.
"Today's the day to make a beginning, today's the day to search in your heart, for today is out time and if you're going to climb mountains so green you should start"
It's in alignment with where I stand as an artist at the moment - I want to use my art to talk about the things that are important to me and inspire people to vote with their feet for the things they want. I've always been about living life to the full and the song says that to me.
John and I gave the song a little lyrical rewrite during lockdown in the light of current events, and with a only a few words changed here and there it seemed to fit how we were all feeling. It's been a tough year for a lot of people, but we have to dig deep and find hope.
During lockdown we tried as much as we could to do things that would lift people's spirits - Chris and I played a live show on a Friday evening on our Facebook page every week for 14 weeks, we did remote recording projects and encouraged people to sing on a song of ours. We've done drive in shows to socially distance everyone but give them a good evening out safely. This song for me embodies that spirit of 'climbing a mountain so green'. To find and spread togetherness and positivity in diffult times is something we always turn to the arts for.
John chose the artwork for the single - an 1885 George Frederic Watts painting called 'Hope'. We have permission from the Tate Gallery to use this for this song and I think it's very fitting.
This song is about seizing the day.
